Etiquette & Travel Rules

Etiquette

  1. Tap your PRESTO card (or approved payment method) every time you board -- even with a monthly pass, an untapped card does not count as Proof-of-Payment.
  2. Let passengers off the train before boarding.
  3. Move to the centre of the car to make room for others, and avoid blocking doors.
  4. Give up priority seating (marked with blue seat covers) for seniors, pregnant passengers, and people with disabilities.
  5. Keep feet off seats and avoid other property misuse.
  6. Do not hold subway doors open or force them; this can delay the whole line.
  7. Keep conversations and audio at a reasonable volume.
  8. Report suspicious activity or safety concerns to TTC staff or by calling/texting Special Constables.

Baggage Policy

  • Personal bags, backpacks, and reasonably-sized luggage are permitted -- keep bags close to you and off seats during busy periods.
  • Bicycles are allowed on the subway at all times except during specific peak-period restrictions on some lines; check current TTC bicycle policy before travelling with one.
  • Folding wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and strollers are welcome; priority spaces are available in each car.
  • Service animals are permitted throughout the system; pets must be in a secured carrier.
  • Items that could endanger other passengers (open flames, hazardous materials, or anything blocking aisles/doors) are not permitted.

All luggage must be stowed in the dedicated luggage area, which can be found in each cabin.
